Clutch Handbag

A clutch handbag is the larger version of the clutch purse. The purse fits only a few essential items, but the clutch handbag goes further to include space for larger items, even packing in some clothing or gymwear. There are often extra dividers or pockets on the clutch handbag for separating and organizing items, and the largest versions are called 'oversize clutch' or 'oversized handbag'.

Like the purse, the clutch handbag will often come with an attachable chain or strap to convert to an over-the-shoulder handbag. Some may also come with attachable handles so it can be carried rather than clutched. The clutch mode is fine for quick jaunts like to the gym or a brief store visit, but for longer walks and extended times you'll want to attach the straps or handles.

The clutch handbag is a very utile item, more so than the clutch purse, which tends to be more of a short term fashion item for events. The handbag needn't be so fashionable, and will usually be made of a little tougher materials since it must carry heavier loads and possibly see rougher treatment. You'll see them made of strong fabrics, and often of leather, or a softer version that is still tough but looks classier, like lambskin leather.

The clutch handbag is made by the same makers of purses and other handbags and can be found in shops that carry those. You might find some expensive designer models but most will be utile and handy and affordable.
